Riedel Vinum Extreme Icewine glasses
For my birthday, I got a pair of Riedel Vinum Extreme Icewine glasses from my parents. I had just bottled my 2005 Vidal Icewine, so we wanted to give it a taste in some proper stemware.
After chilling down the icewine in the fridge for a couple hours, we did a side-by-side tasting in some small generic dessert-wine glasses my parents had in their cabinet. The difference was remarkable:
In the generic glasses, the icewine nose and taste leaned heavily towards the caramel, creme brulee spectrum of my icewine.
However, with the Icewine glasses these characteristics were subdued and more of the honeydew & citrus fruit nose came forward.
Everyone agreed that the difference was quite remarkable and that the fruit flavours were more desirable, so score one for using proper stemware.
